How much does local SEO cost in South Africa?
Cheap quotes and expensive quotes are both real. They are not the same job. Here's a plain number for a local business.

Type SEO cost South Africa into Google and you'll see R1 500 a month next to R15 000 a month. Both can be real. They are not the same job.
This is for a plumber in Durbanville, a clinic in Bellville, anyone who wants nearby people to find them on Google. Not for a shop that sells to the whole country.
What local SEO actually is
Someone nearby types what you do into Google. Local SEO is the work that helps your name show up. On the map. In the free results. Not the paid ads at the top.
You don't pay Google per click. You pay for the work, or you do it yourself. It is slow at first. Then calls can keep coming without a click fee.
- Your Google Business Profile: the map pin with your hours, photos, and reviews.
- Website pages that say the service and the area, in words a customer would type.
- Asking happy customers for reviews, and keeping the listing up to date.
- A short monthly note on what moved: visits, calls, messages.
That is the job. A fat report is not the job.
Why one quote is cheap and the next is huge
You're not being ripped off by the high one and blessed by the low one. You're being quoted for different amounts of work.
- Busy area vs quiet suburb. 'Electrician Cape Town' has more businesses fighting for the same spot than 'electrician Durbanville'. More fighting takes more time.
- One service vs many. One job in one suburb is simpler. Five services and two locations means more pages and more listing work.
- Your website. If someone can't find your number on a phone, showing up on Google just sends them to a dead end. Fix the site first. What a site should cost.
- You vs someone else. You can do a lot yourself if you have evenings. You pay when you don't.
What people in SA actually pay (2026)
Ballparks from quotes we see around Cape Town. Use them to sniff-test a number. Not a promise from every company.
| Option | Typical monthly | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| You do it | Your evenings | You update the listing, ask for reviews, fix a few pages. |
| Cheap monthly | R1 000 to R2 000 | A few tweaks and a report. Sometimes enough. Often not. |
| Local specialist (us) | R2 490 to R5 490 | Listing, key pages, useful articles, a monthly update in English. |
| Big agency | R8 000 to R20 000+ | More people and more meetings. Makes sense with many locations. |
If a quote is way under that middle band, ask what they still do in month four. If they can't say, you're buying a file, not the work.
Our three plans
Prices are on the website so you don't need a sales call to hear a number. We don't promise first place. Nobody honest does.

- 4 articles each month (replaces Growth's 2)
- Monthly call to plan next steps together
- Local (R2 490/month) — one suburb or city, your main services. Start here if that's all you need.
- Growth (R3 790/month) — more pages, two articles a month. Most local businesses pick this.
- Scale (R5 490/month) — more than one location or a longer service list, plus a monthly call. Only if you need that extra.
All three start with three months, then you can stay month to month. Extra locations or a new website are quoted separately. SEO packages.
How long before it helps
Give it 4 to 6 months. The first two months are the boring fixes: listing, pages, reviews. By months 3 and 4 you should start seeing more calls and messages. It keeps building if you keep going.
Need the phone to ring this month? That's Google Ads, not SEO. Ads are faster and you pay per click. SEO is slower and can get cheaper later. We compared them in SEO vs Google Ads.
Pay for work you can see. Not for a promise of first place.
Quick answers
How much does SEO cost per month?
With us, R2 490 to R5 490 a month. Local is one area. Growth is more of the searches. Scale is extra locations or services.
Can I do it myself?
Yes. Fill in your Google Business Profile, add real photos, ask for reviews, and give each service a clear page. It takes evenings. If you don't have evenings, Google Business Profile setup is a once-off. Monthly SEO is a different job.
Is SEO included with a new website?
A decent site should be ready for Google to find. That is not the same as showing up for a busy local search. If someone says SEO is included forever with the build, ask what they're still doing in month four.
Do you guarantee first place on Google?
No. We work on the listing, the pages, and the reviews, and we tell you what moved in plain English.
